What this app is

SmartExpense is a private record-keeping tool for tracking business expenses, receipts and jobs. It is provided to you personally, free of charge, and is not a commercial product.

It is not tax advice

Every figure in this app — totals, GST, BAS quarters, job margins, markup profit — is a summary of the records YOU entered. None of it is tax, accounting or financial advice, and none of it has been checked by an accountant. Have your accountant confirm anything before it is lodged or relied upon.

AI-read receipts are a draft, never a fact

Receipt scanning uses an AI model that can and does misread things — a faded year, a subtotal mistaken for a total. That is why every scanned receipt waits in a "check" list and counts toward nothing until you confirm it. Confirming a receipt means you have checked it against the paper. The accuracy of your records is your responsibility.

Keep your own records

This app is a convenience, not an archive of record. Cloud storage can fail, accounts can be lost, and phones break. Keep the original receipts or your own backups for as long as the law requires you to.

Availability

The app depends on services that may change or stop — Google Firebase, the Gemini API, Expo. It may stop working at any time, with no obligation to maintain, update or restore it.

No warranty, no liability

The app is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, the person who provided it is not liable for any loss arising from its use, including lost records, incorrect figures or a tax position taken on the strength of them. Nothing here excludes rights you have under Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.

Your account

Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.

Changes

These terms may be updated. A material change will be shown in the app, and continuing to use it means accepting the current version.
