Terms of service
1. What PointMate is
PointMate connects two devices for live visual assistance: one person shares their camera view, and the other places guidance annotations (arrows, markers, drawings) that appear anchored to real-world objects. PointMate is a communication tool — the guidance exchanged through it comes from the people using it, not from us.
2. Accuracy & AR limitations
PointMate places guidance using augmented reality (AR), which estimates where real-world surfaces are from your device’s camera and motion sensors. This is an estimate, not a measurement. Arrows, markers and drawings may sit slightly off, drift over time, or fail to anchor — and this is more likely in poor, dim or uneven lighting, on plain, shiny, reflective, transparent or textureless surfaces, when the camera moves quickly, or at distance. AR positions are approximate and can shift as the device re-maps the space. For the best result, keep the area well lit and move the camera slowly. Do NOT treat anything shown in PointMate as an accurate measurement, alignment, or set-out, and always confirm the real-world location yourself before drilling, cutting, installing, or otherwise acting on any placement. AR depth features, which significantly reduce drift and improve anchor accuracy, require Android 9 or later on a compatible ARCore Depth-enabled device. Some Android devices do not support ARCore Depth regardless of their OS version — these devices will experience more placement drift, which is expected behaviour, not a defect.
3. Personal use only, at your own risk
PointMate is provided for personal, non-commercial use as a convenience and communication aid. It is not a professional, certified, or safety-critical tool, and it is not a replacement for professional software, professional advice, or professional help — including a qualified tradesperson, engineer, or medical practitioner. However you use it — personal, commercial, or professional — you use it entirely at your own risk. You must do your own due diligence and independently verify any guidance or information before acting on it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Smartvibes gives no warranty for, and accepts no liability arising from, any use of PointMate whatsoever, whether personal, commercial, or professional.
4. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for what you do during a session. Guidance received through PointMate is informational only — you decide whether it is safe and appropriate to act on, and you should independently verify it first. Never rely on PointMate for work that requires a licensed professional (electrical, gas, structural, medical or similar) unless the person guiding you is appropriately qualified and you have verified that independently. Do not use PointMate to harass, record people without consent, or break any law.
5. Sessions & consent
A session only starts when the on-site person explicitly accepts a join request, and a direct call to a saved contact only connects when the person called answers it. Either side can end a session at any time. A helper can also join from a web browser using a link you share — treat that link like the session code and only give it to someone you want in the session. You should only share your camera in spaces and situations you are comfortable showing to the other participant.
6. Free plan, subscriptions & passes
PointMate is free to assist someone: the person giving help is never charged and has no session time limit. The free plan limits how long the on-site person (the one sharing their camera) can run a session. PointMate Unlimited is an optional auto-renewing subscription that removes that limit for the on-site person. Subscriptions are billed and managed through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store; you can cancel any time in your store account settings. Store refund policies apply. We may also offer time-limited passes (for example, a 24-hour pass) via one-off purchase or promotional codes. A redeemed pass applies to the device it was redeemed on, expires automatically at the end of its period, and codes are single-use. Because PointMate has no accounts, uninstalling the app or clearing its data forfeits any time remaining on a pass.
7. Acceptable use & termination
We may suspend access for abuse of the service (including attempts to circumvent session limits, disrupt the relay infrastructure, or use PointMate unlawfully). You may stop using PointMate at any time; uninstalling removes your local data.
8. Liability
PointMate is provided “as is” and “as available”, with no warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Smartvibes is not liable for any loss or damage arising from any use of the app — personal, commercial, or professional — including actions taken on guidance received during a session, reliance on the app in place of professional software or professional help, inaccurate, drifting, or mis-anchored AR placements, service interruptions, or connection quality. You are responsible for verifying anything before you act on it. Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law; where liability cannot be excluded it is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Contact: [email protected].
